Cardiomyopathy is a disease of the heart muscle that makes it weaker and less able to pump blood through your body. It can occur in people of all ages, even children. The dangers of a weakened heart muscle include arrhythmia and even heart failure

It’s possible to have very few or no symptoms at all in the early stages of this disease. But as it progresses and the heart weakens, both men and women may experience any of the following symptoms:

  • Breathlessness with exertion or even at rest
  • Swelling of the legs, ankles and feet
  • Bloating of the abdomen due to fluid buildup
  • Cough while lying down
  • Fatigue
  • Irregular heartbeats that feel rapid, pounding or fluttering
  • Chest pain
  • Dizziness, lightheadedness and fainting
